A medical research to evaluate and implement the rational management program for antibiotics by Dr. Marwa Ali Haseeb Tahoun at the National liver Institute of Menoufia University for PhD, confirmed the success of the program in reducing the quantity and the monthly cost of antibiotics consumed in the surgery and intensive care department by52%, and the rate of antibiotic-resistant bacteria is reduced from 15% before intervention to 9.9% after the program is implemented, and the response to bacteria to some antibiotics increased.

The research was conducted by the Department of liver Surgery,  pancreas and cystic ducts and the National liver Institute's intensive Care Unit, which has led to improved use of antibiotics for patients at the Department of liver Surgery, pancreas and cystic ducts and intensive Care at the National liver Institute Hospital through the implementation of the good management program for antibiotics ((Antimicrobial Stewardship Program.

 

The researcher recommended that the good management program for antibiotics should be implemented in all departments of the National liver Institute hospital and hospitals all over the Arab Republic of Egypt. A plan for the National liver Institute's giving Antibiotic Policy is based on the results of annual bacteria resistance to antibiotics and the use of quick and modern diagnostic tests, as well as extracting blood cultures from patients with serious infection, and the provision of opportunities for more pharmacists at the National liver Institute to participate in the rational management program of antibiotics.

 

The discussion committee included Dr. Samira Ezzat Abu Al-Khair, Undersecretary of the Institute for Environmental Affairs, Professor of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine at the National liver Institute, Dr. Essam Mohamed Salah, professor of liver surgery, pancreas and cystic ducts, National liver Institute, Dr. Mona Abdul Aziz Wassef, professor of clinical pathology, Al Qasr Al-Aini University of Cairo (external discussion) and Dr. Azza Mohamed Abdel Aziz, Professor and Head of microbiological Department National liver Institute - Menoufia University (internal discussion).

The committee supervising the thesis included Dr. Samira Izzat Abu Al-Khair, the undersecretary of the institute for environmental affairs, the professor of epidemiology and preventive medicine, the National liver Institute. Dr. Magdy Mohamed Khalil, Professor of anesthesia and Care, the National liver Institute, Dr. Essam Mohamed Salah, professor of liver surgery, pancreas and cystic ducts, National liver Institute, Dr. Wassam Saber Murad, Assistant Professor of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine National liver Institute and Dr. Samah Mohamed Awad, microbiological teacher, National liver Institute.
