Menoufiya University (MU) was founded in accordance with the republican decree No.93 in compliance to the increasing demand on the higher education in Egypt . MU started with four faculties; Agriculture, Engineering, Education, and Electronic Engineering.
Now, MU has 22 faculties & institutes : Agriculture, Engineering, Education, Electronic Engineering, Science, Commerce, Medicine, Arts, Law, the National liver Institute, Home Economics, Nursing, Specific Education, Computers & Information, Genetic Engineering Institute & Biotechnology Research Institute, Faculty of Physical Education, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Tourism & Hotels, Institute of Environmental Studies & Research, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Commerce, and Faculty of Law.

• Faculty of Electronic Engineering, Menouf City :-

It is the first of its kind in Egypt, the Arab World, and Africa. This faculty is concerned with the engineering sciences, as well as electronics.

• The National Liver Institute in Shebin El-Kom City

The institute mission is to offer the best treatment and research services for the liver patients, and to graduate a new generation of specialist physicians in treating the hepatic diseases. This institute rewards both Master and Doctorate degrees in four specialist branches in hepatic diseases; they are: Liver Medicine, Pediatric Liver, Medicine-Liver ; and Piliary Ducts Surgery.

• Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Research in El- Sadat City

This institute is considered the most important specialized scientific unit in the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology field . As it presents one of the main pillars of the future sciences. The institute includes many specialized research laboratories and scientific libraries.

• Institute of Environmental Studies and Research in El- Sadat City

This Institute is considered as another important and modern unit at MU. It includes a 500  acres farm. It is mainly concerned with scanning the natural resources in the desert environment, evaluating these resources in addition to developing the desert environment and conducting its projects.

  • According to the academic year 2008/2009 statistics , the number of the undergraduate students (B.Sc and B.A) at MU is 72603 .
  • According to the academic year 2008/2009 statistics, the number of post graduate students in MU faculties and institutes is :-
    - Diploma: 3071 students
    - Master Degree: 3175 students
    - Doctorate Degree: 1317 students
  • In the academic year 2007-2008, the number of the graduates was 14134 .
  • In the academic year 2007-2008, the number of the Diploma holders was 3358 .
  • In the academic year 2007-2008, the number of the Master degree holders was 404 .
  • In the academic year 2007-2008, the number of the Doctorate degree holders was 192 .

  • According to the academic year 2008/2009 statistics ,the number of the teaching staff members is 1883 .
  • According to the academic year 2008/2009 statistics, the number of the teaching assistants is 1468 .

  • According to the academic year 2008/2009 statistics, the number of the general cadre personnel is 8859 .

MU achieves its mission and goals  throughout its faculties , Institutes , and self- sponsored units. The self-sponsered units affiliated to the university administration are now 47 founded to achieve university’s missions towards its community ( students, staff members, teaching assistants, and the governorate 's citizens ) .

These units include the following sub-units  :
