National Liver Institute, Menoufia | Official Statement on Situation Management and Institutional Readiness

With reference to the incident that occurred yesterday, and in line with our commitment to transparency and reassuring the public, the National Liver Institute announces that operations are proceeding at full capacity. The Institute also outlines the actions taken immediately following a limited fire that broke out in one of the rooms in the basement of the old building (not the main building). We emphasize that this building is not used to provide medical services to patients and is completely free of any patient presence.

The Institute’s safety system, in effective cooperation with the Civil Protection forces, succeeded in fully containing the limited fire immediately upon its outbreak, with no human casualties and no impact on operations in the Institute’s main building.

The emergency plan was activated immediately, and the Crisis Management Committee convened urgently. It remains in continuous session to oversee on-site operations, secure the location, and ensure the uninterrupted provision of medical services across all departments.

An emergency meeting of the Institute Council was held under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Osama Hegazy, Dean of the Institute and Chairman of the Hospital Board, attended by the Vice Deans for Community Service and Environmental Development, and for Postgraduate Studies and Research, along with the Hospital Executive Director, heads of various departments, and a number of faculty members. The meeting reviewed the causes of the incident in detail and adopted immediate and practical measures to prevent recurrence, in addition to conducting a comprehensive review of occupational safety and health requirements across all Institute facilities.

We affirm that work in all departments within the main building is proceeding normally and regularly. The provision of medical services to patients has not been affected by this incidental event, as an urgent plan has been adopted to ensure continuity of operations with the same level of efficiency and quality.

The Institute’s administration extends its sincere thanks and appreciation to all partners whose presence and support played a key role in containing the situation:

  • The President of Menoufia University: for his unlimited support and continuous presence at the heart of the event from the very first moments, which greatly reassured all and contributed to managing the situation wisely and effectively.
  • The Governor of Menoufia: for his full support, close and continuous follow-up, and his immediate directives to provide Civil Protection vehicles as quickly as possible, which contributed to bringing the situation under control promptly.
  • The Director of Menoufia Security: for high-level security coordination and the rapid deployment of security teams to secure the site and facilitate the work of firefighting teams.
  • The Vice Presidents of Menoufia University: for their presence, close monitoring, and continuous coordination to overcome all obstacles and ensure the uninterrupted functioning of the academic and medical system.
  • The Director of Civil Protection: for his outstanding efforts, rapid response, and the high level of professionalism demonstrated in handling and fully securing the fire.

The Institute also expresses its deep gratitude and appreciation to the dedicated personnel of this distinguished medical institution, who demonstrated exceptional efficiency in managing the crisis:

  • The Occupational Safety and Health Team and Security Personnel: for their professionalism and courage from the very first moments in securing the site and protecting lives and facilities.
  • The medical teams, including faculty members, physicians, and nursing staff: for maintaining professional composure and continuing to provide high-quality medical care to patients in the main building with dedication and commitment.
  • All administrative staff and support service teams: who worked tirelessly to facilitate logistics and ensure the smooth and uninterrupted functioning of operations.

The safety of patients and medical staff remains our top priority. We reaffirm our full commitment to providing a safe environment within this esteemed medical institution and reassure everyone that the situation is fully under control thanks to the collective efforts of all parties.

May everyone remain safe.
