A New Medical Achievement in Menoufia: Innovative Surgical Technique Reduces Operation Risks for Liver Ascites Patients
The National Liver Institute, Menoufia University announced the results of a recent scientific study (Master’s thesis) conducted by researcher and physician Amr Osama El Shibini. The study successfully evaluated the effectiveness of the “hernia sac reduction without excision” technique in treating inguinal hernia among cirrhotic patients suffering from ascites, representing a pioneering research step aimed at reducing surgical risks for critically ill patients.
The study was supervised by a distinguished group of senior surgery professors at the institute:
- Hesham Abdel Dayem
- Islam Ismail Ayoub
- Yahia Ahmed Fayed
The research aimed to develop safer surgical solutions for patients facing major challenges such as poor wound healing and increased risks of bleeding and infection.
The study, conducted on 75 patients at the National Liver Institute, demonstrated that the new technique significantly reduced common surgical complications and proved effective in managing cases with high intra-abdominal pressure caused by ascites.
The study recommended adopting this surgical approach as an effective alternative that minimizes the risk of bleeding or peritoneal fluid loss during surgery, thereby improving patients’ quality of life, accelerating recovery, and reducing recurrence rates, which had long been considered one of the main obstacles to conventional surgical intervention in this patient group.
In this context, Osama Hegazy praised the study, stating:
“This research represents a valuable addition to the surgical school of the National Liver Institute, as it focuses on a group of patients requiring exceptional surgical precision. We are always committed to supporting research that adopts minimally invasive and safer techniques to ensure the highest success rates for surgical repair procedures and to reduce hospital stay duration, in line with modern international standards.”
