Under the Slogan “Practice on the Ground” — The National Liver Institute Organizes a Training Day on GAHAR Infection Control Standards

The Infection Control Unit at the National Liver Institute, Menoufia University, organized an intensive training day entitled “Infection Control in GAHAR Standards for Beginners: Key Points and Practical Application”, as part of the Institute’s ongoing efforts to enhance the efficiency of healthcare staff and implement the highest healthcare quality standards.

The event was held under the patronage of Dr. Ahmed Farag El-Qased, President of Menoufia University, and Dr. Ahmed Taha, Chairman of the General Authority for Healthcare Accreditation and Regulation (GAHAR), with the support of the Institute’s executive leadership represented by Dr. Osama Hegazy, Dean of the Institute; Dr. Hany Sherim, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development; Dr. Iman Abdel Samea, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research; under the supervision of Dr. Ahmed Attia, Executive Director of the Hospital, and Dr. Fatma Khalil, Director of the Infection Control Unit.

The training day primarily targeted newly joined healthcare personnel within the Infection Control Team, aiming to strengthen their practical skills and deepen their understanding of the requirements of the General Authority for Healthcare Accreditation and Regulation (GAHAR). The sessions witnessed distinguished participation from trainees eager to translate theoretical standards into effective implementation within the Institute’s departments.

The scientific sessions were delivered by Dr. Walaa Abdel Latif, Professor of Medical Microbiology and Immunology at the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University, and member of the Board of Directors of GAHAR. She provided a comprehensive explanation of all GAHAR standards, with a strong focus on practical aspects and the real-world application of infection control protocols to ensure the safety of both patients and healthcare facilities.

The training day addressed several vital points and strategic topics. Sessions focused on mechanisms for protecting healthcare workers by emphasizing strict adherence to personal protective equipment (PPE) and the implementation of precise occupational safety policies. Special emphasis was also placed on immunization, encouraging all healthcare workers to receive the necessary vaccinations, particularly against hepatitis viruses, as the first line of defense for their safety.

In addition, the program included a technical component on crisis management, highlighting the dangers of epidemic outbreaks within healthcare facilities and presenting modern scientific strategies for effectively managing and containing such outbreaks to ensure a safe and stable working environment.

In this context, Professor Dr. Osama Hegazy, Dean of the National Liver Institute, stressed the importance of such scientific meetings, stating:

“Our true investment lies in our human resources and in training them according to the latest international and local standards established by GAHAR. We are not only striving to provide distinguished medical services, but we also place the safety of our healthcare staff and patients at the forefront through the implementation of strict infection control measures, which represent a fundamental pillar in maintaining the accreditation and quality standards achieved by the Institute.”

The training day concluded with an open discussion session during which simulation models demonstrating the application of standards in various workplace settings were reviewed, helping to enhance the confidence of newly practicing professionals in carrying out their duties efficiently and professionally.
