A Surgical Team at the National Liver Institute Saves the Life of a Patient Suffering from Severe Liver Trauma and Massive Internal Bleeding

A specialized surgical team at the National Liver Institute of Menoufia University successfully saved the life of a patient who arrived in extremely critical condition following an accident that caused severe liver injuries and life-threatening internal bleeding.

The patient was admitted to the institute’s Emergency Department suffering from acute instability in vital functions. Immediate CT scans revealed severe liver lacerations accompanied by internal bleeding and a massive hematoma. Laboratory tests also showed a critical drop in hemoglobin levels to 6 g/dL, an extremely dangerous stage that required urgent intervention and the transfusion of three units of blood before and during surgery to compensate for blood loss.

The patient was rapidly transferred to the operating room, where she underwent a delicate emergency surgery led by a medical team including Dr. Islam Ayoub, Dr. Mostafa El-Kallal, and Dr. Ahmed Tamer, with the participation of Dr. Mahmoud Samy, Dr. Mohamed Hassan, Dr. Karim, and Dr. Sondos, alongside outstanding support from the nursing team represented by Ismail Mohamed and Amr Mohamed.

The surgical team successfully achieved complete control of the liver bleeding source and removed the accumulated blood clots while maintaining the patient’s vital stability until she safely left the operating room and entered the recovery phase.

Professor Dr. Osama Hegazy, Dean of the National Liver Institute at Menoufia University, praised the efficiency of the medical staff and the speed of response, stating:

“What the medical team accomplished today is a true embodiment of the institute’s mission to provide the highest standards of emergency healthcare. The institute is not only a leading center for treating chronic diseases, but also an advanced regional center fully equipped to handle complex liver injuries and trauma cases, thanks to the combined efforts of our staff working in a unified team spirit to save patients’ lives.”

In the same context, Dr. Islam Ayoub, General Director of the National Liver Institute Hospital and leader of the surgical team, emphasized the hospital’s constant readiness, saying:

“Immediately upon receiving the case, the highest emergency protocol was activated, and coordination was established between the radiology department, blood bank, and operating rooms. Successfully controlling bleeding of this magnitude in a patient suffering from circulatory shock reflects both the surgical precision and the advanced capabilities we possess. We remain committed to providing every possible means to ensure the best medical care under the most challenging circumstances.”
