Speech of Prof. Dr. Osama Hegazy Abdel Salam Dean of the National Liver Institute Address to the Nursing Staff on the Occasion of International Nurses Day National Liver Institute 24/05/2026 In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, Colleagues and members of the medical team, My sons and daughters, members of the nursing staff, Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you all. It gives me great pleasure and honor to meet with you today on this cherished occasion to celebrate International Nurses Day — a day on which we stand with utmost pride and respect before those who carry one of the greatest humanitarian missions and whose impact on the lives of patients and society is truly profound. The nursing profession is no longer merely a supporting role within the healthcare system; rather, it has become an essential and central partner in providing modern medical care, ensuring the quality of healthcare services and patient safety, and supporting the journey of institutional development and healthcare accreditation. Today, nursing represents the beating heart of any successful medical institution, the closest element to the patient, and the profession most capable of translating the values of compassion and humanity into a reality felt by patients and their families at every moment. Over the past years, the nursing teams at the National Liver Institute – Menoufia University have demonstrated an honorable model of commitment, discipline, and high professional competence. They have played a prominent role in supporting the comprehensive development process witnessed by the institute across its various medical, administrative, and service sectors. At this point, I must emphasize that the successes achieved by the institute’s hospital would not have been possible without the sincere efforts and continuous dedication of the nursing teams across all departments, whether in operating rooms, intensive care units, liver transplantation departments, outpatient clinics, infection control units, or quality and patient safety departments. Nursing staff played a pivotal and fundamental role in the institute hospital obtaining accreditation from the General Authority for Healthcare Accreditation and Regulation (GAHAR), through strict adherence to quality and patient safety standards, precise implementation of infection control policies, proper medical documentation, rapid response to critical cases, and teamwork within the healthcare system. Nursing teams have also contributed significantly to achieving the institutional excellence that has become a defining characteristic of the National Liver Institute, whether in the fields of healthcare quality, environmental excellence, administrative development, digital transformation, or active participation in government excellence initiatives. This reflects a high level of professional awareness and an advanced institutional culture that believes healthcare quality begins with people and ends with services worthy of the Egyptian patient. We are proud that nursing at the National Liver Institute has become a role model in scientific and professional commitment, not only among university hospitals but also among specialized healthcare institutions throughout Egypt. It has become evident that true investment in the healthcare sector begins with investment in human resources, foremost among them the nursing staff. On this occasion, I extend a message of appreciation and gratitude to every nurse who works with sincerity, patience, and humanity, bearing the pressures and immense responsibilities of the profession for the comfort of patients and the saving of lives. Your daily dedication is a source of pride for us all and one of the primary reasons behind patients’ trust in our esteemed institute. I also reaffirm the institute administration’s continued full support for the development of nursing personnel through continuous training and education programs, enhancing professional competence, and providing a supportive and motivating work environment worthy of the tremendous efforts exerted. In conclusion, I extend to you all my sincere thanks, appreciation, and respect, praying to Almighty Allah to always grant you success in fulfilling your noble humanitarian mission, to protect our beloved Egypt, and to preserve the National Liver Institute’s leading position and its distinguished scientific and medical legacy. Wishing you all a happy and prosperous year ahead. Share
