Prof. Ahmed Farag El-Kased, President of Menoufia University, announced the success of a medical team from the Surgery Department at National Liver Institute in performing a series of advanced laparoscopic surgeries that lasted for more than 12 consecutive hours to save five critical high-risk cases, despite the challenges imposed by severe weather conditions.

He noted that what the medical team achieved represents a distinguished medical accomplishment reflecting the efficiency of the medical staff and their ability to work under pressure and in extremely difficult circumstances. He emphasized that continuing work inside operating rooms despite unfavorable weather conditions demonstrates the highest levels of responsibility and commitment toward saving patients.

Prof. Ahmed El-Kased added that the university administration gives great attention to developing university hospitals and equipping them with the latest medical devices and technologies, in addition to investing in the training of medical personnel, in a way that contributes to providing advanced and safe healthcare services for citizens.

He explained that the medical team performed these precise and complex procedures using laparoscopic surgery, including five specialized operations. These included repairing a ruptured umbilical hernia for a patient suffering from liver cirrhosis and severe ascites, removing a gangrenous gallbladder from an elderly diabetic patient after gallbladder rupture and the formation of abdominal abscesses, as well as treating a liver abscess and performing gallbladder removal laparoscopically.

The team also succeeded in conducting a life-saving operation for a patient with liver cirrhosis and gallbladder rupture that led to a liver abscess, in addition to carrying out a rare surgery for a biliary-enteric fistula case, which involved gallbladder removal along with part of the stomach and duodenum, followed by reconstruction of the digestive tract in a highly delicate surgical intervention.

The university president expressed his appreciation to the medical team that participated in this achievement, praising the spirit of teamwork and the efforts of the “rescue team” of physicians, nursing staff, and anesthesia teams, whose contribution played a major role in the success of these delicate operations.

For his part, Dr. Osama Hegazy, Dean of National Liver Institute, praised the efforts of the medical team, affirming that expanding the use of laparoscopy in such complex cases contributes to reducing complications and accelerating recovery time.

Dr. Ahmed Attia, Executive Director of the hospital, also confirmed that the success of these operations under difficult weather conditions reflects the readiness of the operating rooms and the efficiency of the medical, nursing, and anesthesia teams in dealing with critical cases.

Dr. Hossam Soliman, Head of the Surgery Department, pointed out that handling such delicate cases requires high expertise and skill, which the team clearly demonstrated during these surgeries.

The surgical team was led by Dr. Mohamed Balabel, Lecturer of Surgery, with the participation of Dr. Ahmed Galhoum, Assistant Lecturer of Surgery, supported by resident doctors and a distinguished team of anesthesiologists, in a new medical achievement added to the continuous record of success of Menoufia University in the healthcare sector.
