Menoufia University Inaugurates First International Conference of the University Oncology Institute: A Medical Landmark Serving the Delta Region and a Visionary Step in Cancer Treatment Development

Prof. Ahmed El-Kased, President of Menoufia University, inaugurated the first international conference of the University Oncology Institute. The event gathered a distinguished assembly of oncology professors and specialists from Egypt and abroad, providing a leading platform to exchange expertise and discuss the latest developments in cancer diagnosis and treatment.

The opening was attended by Prof. Nasser Abdel Bari, President of Sadat University, Prof. Mohamed Abdel-Moaty, Dean of the National Cancer Institute, and Dr. Hisham El-Ghazaly, President of the Egyptian Cancer Society, alongside academic and medical leaders.

The conference is chaired by Prof. Ahmed Sabry, Dean of the University Oncology Institute, with a scientific committee including Dr. Shaimaa Mahmoud and Dr. Hassan Metwally as vice presidents, Dr. Mohamed Abu El-Fotouh, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research, as honorary president, and Dr. Mohamed Senbawy, Executive Director of the institute, serving as conference secretary.

In his speech, Prof. El-Kased highlighted the Oncology Institute as a major achievement during his tenure and emphasized the need to expand specialized research centers for cancer treatment across Egypt to meet growing demand.

Key Role of Menoufia Oncology Institute in the Delta Region
Prof. El-Kased emphasized the institute’s role as a model for comprehensive therapeutic and research services, serving the entire Delta region. He highlighted the dual role of these centers in both treatment and scientific research, preparing qualified medical personnel, and stressed ongoing efforts to provide state-of-the-art equipment and complete infrastructure projects.

He also thanked Dr. Hossam El-Fel, the first dean of the institute, for his foundational role, and invited experts, researchers, and state institutions to support the completion of the institute’s facilities with the latest medical and therapeutic technologies.

Institutional Integration and National Cancer Registry
Prof. Nasser Abdel Bari praised Menoufia University’s significant progress and emphasized collaboration between Sadat University and the institute in research fields.

Prof. Ahmed Sabry confirmed that over the past six months, more than 20 master’s and doctoral theses were registered, and the institute’s hospital obtained accreditation from the General Authority for Healthcare Accreditation and Regulation, with a capacity of 350 beds meeting global standards.

Dr. Hisham El-Ghazaly highlighted the Egyptian Cancer Society’s efforts with over 1,500 members working to serve cancer patients, calling for better integration between university hospitals and the Ministry of Health.

Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Moaty emphasized collaboration between the Menoufia Oncology Institute and the National Cancer Institute in establishing a unified national cancer patient registry. Currently, Egypt has approximately 3,000 oncology beds, with plans to double this number to 6,000.

The conference program includes 13 specialized sessions covering breast, gastrointestinal, lung, urinary, lymphatic cancers, leukemia, pediatric tumors, radiation therapy, surgical oncology, tumor biology, palliative care, and patient quality-of-life improvements. Workshops include initiatives for women’s health and early detection of breast cancer, reflecting national priorities in disease prevention and early diagnosis.
