Menoufia University receives members of the evaluation committee for the Best Environmentally Friendly University Competition at the Supreme Council of Universities

Under the auspices of Dr. Ahmed El-Kased, President of Menoufia University, and within the framework of the university's continuous efforts to achieve sustainability standards and its effective role in serving society and preserving the environment for future generations; the university today received the committee tasked with evaluating Egyptian universities as the best environmentally friendly university, which is held under the auspices of Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

In the presence of Dr. Sobhi Sharaf, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development, Dr. Nasser Abdel Bari, Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs, and Dr. Hazem Saleh, Vice President of the University for Postgraduate Studies and Research, and with the participation of representatives of civil society, the University Student Union, and the Students for Egypt family. The committee included Dr. Khaled Omran, Vice President of Sohag University for Community Service and Development, Eng. Amjad Mohamed Al-Huwaigi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Electricity and Head of the Studies, Research and Testing Sector at the New and Renewable Energy Authority, Eng. Samah Saleh, Sustainable Development Officer at the Office of the Minister of Environment, and Dr. Sarah Ibrahim from the Institute of Architecture and Housing at the National Center for Housing and Building Research. Dr. Ahmed El-Kased pointed out that the visit aims to evaluate the university within the framework of its participation in the Best Environmentally Friendly University Competition at the level of Egyptian universities, which aims to reach green Egyptian universities by measuring the extent of universities' commitment to participating in developing an environmentally friendly infrastructure and the extent of their adherence to environmental sustainability standards to push the Egyptian state's efforts to transition to a green economy and achieve sustainable development. Dr. Ahmed El-Kased explained that Menoufia University has already witnessed a remarkable development towards green transformation, in line with the goals of sustainable development and in accordance with the state’s directives towards upgrading the environmental system and developing the green economy, stressing the university’s interest in establishing partnerships with international universities and research centers to advance scientific research, serve the community, link scientific research at the university to industry, and achieve the goals of industrial zones in the governorate, in addition to achieving a prestigious position among Egyptian and international universities in all fields and international classifications. Dr. Sobhi Sharaf also welcomed the committee members, stressing that the university's participation in the Best Environmentally Friendly University Competition comes from three starting points, the most important of which are achieving Egypt's Vision 2030, achieving environmental strategies and the state's orientations in sustainable development, moving towards a green future, and implementing the university's strategic plans. The university has therefore developed specific mechanisms and steps that include all university sectors and has been keen to implement them. He explained that the evaluation of universities is done according to seven main criteria: "The university's infrastructure and risk management standard - energy and climate change - waste management - water management - transportation within the university - educational systems and scientific research - the university and society standard." Dr. Hazem Saleh pointed out the university's keenness to direct scientific research towards what benefits the environment and the surrounding community and to work on increasing the number of scholarships and research that focus on sustainability in addition to funding environmental research, books, publications, and scientific research related to the environment and sustainability. For his part, Dr. Nasser Abdel Bari stressed that the education and students sector is keen to include some curricula related to the environment and environmental sustainability, in addition to the sector's interest in international activities and participations that aim to raise awareness among university students of sustainability standards in all fields. The university's efforts to achieve the competition standards were reviewed and an introductory video was shown for the university's sectors and colleges. Each head of the seven criteria for the competition presented the university's efforts in achieving the university's standards and requirements and what distinguishes Menoufia University in this regard. The committee then made an inspection visit to all aspects of the university's file on the ground and visited the university units related to the Menoufia University file. The committee began the visit at the Liver Institute at Menoufia University and during the visit viewed the environmentally friendly solar heating units and the uses of these heaters inside the institute, in addition to a number of clinics and laboratories in the institute. Then the committee moved to visit the Faculty of Dentistry and followed up on the work in the college's clinics and how to manage medical waste and dispose of it safely using the latest scientific methods and standards. Then the committee moved to the Faculty of Engineering and followed up on the solar energy units there during the visit in addition to reviewing a student project to produce an environmentally friendly car that runs on electricity. The car was tested in front of the committee by the student team that owned the project. The committee also visited the engineering exhibition at the college, during which the college students reviewed models of their student projects inside it and its exhibition. The committee visited the Faculty of Media and watched an introductory video about the university's efforts during which a number of student projects related to the environment were reviewed and the studio and exhibition at the college were inspected. Then the committee moved to the Faculty of Science and saw the laboratories inside the college and the methods of dealing with them safely and disposing of chemical waste using the latest Scientific Methods The committee also visited the College of Computers and Information and saw the computer labs and the college's exhibition and the College of Artificial Intelligence and inspected the electrical sensors and the college's labs. The committee also visited the College of Agriculture, flower nurseries and various units in it, the College of Education, the College of Early Childhood Education, the College of Veterinary Medicine and Electronic Engineering. The committee praised the university's efforts to achieve the competition standards and the efforts made to improve them.
