Dr. Ahmed El-Kased, President of Menoufia University, congratulated the team of the Faculty of Electronic Engineering for winning his Smart Farm project the Sustainability Innovation Award presented by the Federation of Egyptian Industries and ICE Alex, which is financially supported by the European Union and the Organization Cross-border cooperation in the Mediterranean, expressing his happiness with this new achievement of the Faculty of Electronic Engineering in Menouf under the supervision of Dr. Ayman Amira, Dean of the Faculty. Educational, research and community services to achieve the goals of sustainable development through its unique specialization in the fields of electronics, electrical and industrial communications, control, computer science and medical engineering.

The Smart Farm project team includes: Dr. Abdullah Nabil Muhammad Mostafa, Dr. Ezz El-Din Badawi Hamdan, two teachers in the Department of Computer Engineering and Science, and Dr. Amjad El-Sayed Abdel-Meguid, a teacher in the Department of Industrial Electronics and Control Engineering in the college. The project aims to collect data on soil and crops and analyze them using artificial intelligence and the Internet. Things to save (the amount of water - agricultural fertilizers) used in the cultivation process and reduce the amount of pesticides used to obtain a high-quality product and maintain soil health.

It is worth noting that the project has many characteristics and features that aim, in addition to rationalizing the use of water and fertilizers in the agricultural process, replacing electric energy with solar energy for managing farms, reducing the cost of farming per feddan for different soil types (clay - desert), and empowering women by providing Job opportunities for agricultural engineers using the data platform provided by the farm system, which contributes to facilitating their work and reducing the need to visit agricultural lands. It also has important environmental effects, which is reducing the use of pesticides and thus maintaining soil health for longer periods without the need for agricultural fertilizers.

The project has achieved many previous successes, as it won the first place in the organization’s innovation marathon competition from Creative Hubs under the auspices of the Center for Technological Innovation and Entrepreneurship of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and the second place for the best participating project in the I3OT competition, which is supported by the German Academic Exchange Service DAAD and implemented by The German University of Offenburg and the American University in Cairo, and the first place at the level of Menoufia Governorate in the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects in the emerging projects category.
